Join Victor Lobo To Support 180+ Abandoned Elders
In the bustling cities and quiet villages of India, countless elderly individuals find themselves abandoned, forgotten, and left to struggle alone. Some suffer from mental health conditions, others have disabilities that make mobility difficult, while many have simply been left behind due to poverty or neglect.
For these elderly individuals, every day is a battle for survival—searching for food, shelter, and safety in a world that has turned its back on them. But one man refuses to let them suffer alone.
Victor Lobo never imagined that his life’s purpose would shift so drastically—until his mother fell ill. Watching her struggle, he realised how difficult it was for many elderly people to access care.
"When my mother needed round-the-clock attention, I realized how lucky I was to have the means to provide for her. But what about those who have no one? No savings, no family, no support? That thought haunted me," says Victor.
Determined to make a difference, in 1996, he founded the Shree Peter Memorial Trust in honour of his father. Under this trust, he started Mother Teresa Home for Elders in Virar, Maharashtra.
What began as a small initiative has now grown into a full-fledged shelter, caring for over 150 abandoned seniors who have nowhere else to go. Some are brought in by police and social workers, while others are found wandering the streets, confused and malnourished.
Many of them arrive with no recollection of their names or origins. Some have been abandoned at railway stations, while others have been left to fend for themselves after their families moved on.
"Many of them don’t even remember their own names, where they come from, or how they ended up here. It breaks my heart to see them in such a condition, but we do everything we can to give them dignity and love, Victor shares.
At Mother Teresa Home for Elders, they receive three nutritious meals a day, medical treatment for chronic illnesses and mental health conditions, and round-the-clock support from a team of 28 caregivers. They are given clean clothes, hygiene products, and a comfortable space to rest. Most importantly, they are treated with respect and compassion, something they were denied for years.
For many residents, this home is their first experience of safety in a long time. But the need is growing, and the resources are limited.
With your help, abandoned seniors can be given a second chance—one filled with warmth, love, and care.
"When we take in a new resident, we see a transformation. They come in frail and broken, but with time, love, and care, they regain their dignity. This is the power of compassion, says Victor.
Today let’s ensure that no elder is left to suffer alone.
